Compassion and Experience

Finding a therapist is no easy task. Whether you are new to therapy or have had treatment for years, reaching out to a new therapist can be daunting and overwhelming and may even produce some of the very issues for which you are seeking help in the first place. So, thank you for taking the time to visit and learn more about how I can help you.

I am a psychotherapist based in Columbia, South Carolina. I also hold a license in New York. Since 2018, my practice has been focusing on the treatment of anxiety, depression, relationship and attachment issues, work-life management concerns, parenting stressors, life transitions, self-development and emotional regulation, and young adult pressures.

I am passionate about helping people feel safe, validated, and heard. Most often, the therapeutic alliance is the vehicle through which deep healing and lasting change occur. This special relationship supports clients in their self-exploration and knowledge, encourages self-compassion and self-regulation, and fosters an emotionally healing experience.

Dr. Gabor Mate so beautifully and poignantly captures the essence of the therapeutic journey when he says, "everything you judge about yourself served a purpose at the time. Pay attention to your insecurities. They are not there to taunt you, but to show you where to heal."

Committed to Helping The Whole Person

I believe that comprehensive wellness requires a multi-dimensional, holistic approach. There are many ways to understand this layered process. A way to define this therapeutic framework is one that uses a bio-psycho-social lens that focuses on gaining insight into unconscious patterns of thought and behavior and processing contradictory feelings and repressed emotions.

I build on this perspective with clients by exploring the influence of external dynamics on their internal systems as we look at the individual’s family, community, and culture in addition to society as a whole.  Using this context helps us understand the role and impact of inter-generational trauma and oppression often overlooked, misinterpreted, and/or over-pathologized.  Additionally, I believe therapy includes a relational, spiritual, and nutritional component that helps me fully appreciate and engage with the whole person I see before me. As I help guide the individual back to her/his/their true selves and toward health and healing, I am keenly aware of the body’s internal multisystemic mode of communication and its influence on health and overall well-being.

As Dr. Leslie Korn says, “the body tells the story that the mind can’t find the words to share.” Unresolved or unconscious conflicts, wounds, and/or emotions from the past inform our current narrative. They generally serve as the filters through which we react and relate to situations and people in the present. These unresolved or repressed emotions can manifest as physical symptoms of disease and illness. I want to help you return to a state of ease and reclaim your vibrancy.

Practicing a Client-Centered Approach

“The most beautiful people are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle and loss and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.” — Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

The process of therapy is unique to the individual; there is no “one way.” I invite you to live your most satisfying life as you notice, honor, and “welcome all of your parts” with compassionate curiosity. Together, we will collaborate on helping you be the best version of yourself so you feel empowered to make healthier choices all around.
